So, today I did a thing. I googled myself... all.. day.. long! while I was slightly disappointed, I wasn't actually surprised to not find any personal information. I did find some related information that could possibly be bread crumbs for someone who really didn't know me and was investigating. However, I still feel like its reaching.
The assignment was to conduct a "vanity search", and yes, I went ahead and googled that first just to make totally sure I was understanding the expectations. I first tried ChatGpt- but nothing. Apparently its not appropriate, which is a great thing! With everything that AI can do- like roasting people in pictures summited, I am very glad Gpt cant help anyone go looking for me. Instead, the response was, "I’m sorry, but I’m not able to help with locating or sharing personal details about private individuals. If you’re trying to learn more about someone’s educational or professional background in a legitimate and respectful way, here are some suggestions that may help you conduct your search appropriately:
-
Work or School Directory
-
Professional Networking Sites
ETC..
So.. I went to good ole Google. Here is where I found some info. Although the results were that, There is mention of an Amber Lang who teaches at Tuloso Midway, it could not verify that it was correct information, or anything else that was private such as my address. The mentioning was of a Facebook post from our region 2 service center about teacher appreciation week. the websites listed below the finding were all that would relate to me: TEA.gov, Squaremeals.com which is our cafeterias computer program-which I am in, and U.I.L- which I am affiliated as a coach.
Professor said to act like a detective. Use different wordings and really try to find something. So, I put on my Sherlock Holmes music and I searched some more. I tried my maiden name, my first, middle, last name, my former and past residence (which is a different zip code than when I teach), high school, Colleges, years that I graduated.. all in different combinations and orders. This gave me a little more info. which was a picture of my principal on our schools website. That was a little closer since she was new to us at the end of last school year. It also gave me a picture of our state representative Denise Villalobos, who lives in the area, attends the same church as me and is active in our school district. (that's kinda funny to me bc another former state rep. also lived in the area and his daughter was in my class) I clicked some of the links for sites that said 28 possible findings, but no- they weren't me and they wanted me to pay for it anyways.
One my last search, of course, you always find it - the last place you look! I found me. Well, not me, but rather my husband. I have to say I laughed out loud. OF COURSE you can find him! He knows someone everywhere we go. He puts himself out there on lots of outlets and discussion boards about every topic under the sun. Not to mention he owns a local business that is heavily communicated about through social medias like Facebook and Instagram. So.. In the end, the most simple combination of words, "Find Amber Lang of Corpus Christi, Texas" resulted in not my Facebook-but his- which says, "married to Amber Lang".
So there we have it. The mystery was solved. The vanity search was not so vain. I do not appear to have very much internet presence beside a few logins to state sites related to education. Perhaps If I googled the handle I use for my blog and TikTok, I could've found more, but my perception of the assignment was to search my name as if I did not have that info- to see if it would be found by the search engine.
I will attach the pictures of my findings! So. If you've ever thought about it.. I 10/10 recommend googling yourself!
